         Couples Massage
It's a great way to schedule relaxing time with someone special.  Simultaneous side by side massages are very popular.  Whether it's with your spouse, another family member or friend consider the two options we have to offer.  Our standard treatment rooms are very relaxing with soothing music, dim sconce lighting and the gentle glow of Himalayan Salt lamps.  Perfect for a girls day out, mom and daughter day or a day with your sweetheart.  It's also a great way for someone who may be apprehensive about getting a massage to get comfortable with the idea.  We have two double treatment rooms allowing us to schedule up to four clients at once. Great for a double date, a reunion of family and friends or for a bridal party group.  It's a great way to carve out some time to just chill and relax.
Our second option is our upgraded Himalayan Salt Lounge.
This room features six 4 ft x 4 ft back lit panels of salt blocks.  It has a Chakra light panel on the ceiling, over a dozen salt lamps in the room and three misters that provide a gentle fine cool mist of pure food grade quality pink salt into the atmosphere.  This room is perfect for a special occasion or if you looking for added detoxification, relaxation and balancing during your next massage.  Imagine listening to relaxing music as you unwind in this unique healthful, beautiful space with someone special.
Our massages can be customized for your specific needs.  From Swedish to deep tissue, hot stone or prenatal we have a variety of options to offer.  You can also upgrade and add aromatherapy if you choose.  Time increments available range from 30 mins - 2 hrs.
We also offer Reflexology.  Any of these services can be scheduled as a couples massage.  They'd also make a great bridal shower, wedding or anniversary gift.  A baby moon gift for expectant or new parents would be welcomed with much appreciation.
Next time you are looking to schedule something different or are in need of the perfect gift- consider a couples massage.  It's twice as nice!

Stressed at work?  Consider an onsite
Chair Massage.  Did you know that employers that offer this service to their staff have less absenteeism.  Chair Massage in the workplace increases employee effectiveness.  It enhances alertness and increases productivity.  It can improve and enhance working relationships among staff members and clients.  It's a great idea for recognizing birthdays, service anniversaries, good attendance, accident free periods or as a bonus for completing projects, achieving goals, or sales.  It can be part of an employee wellness program.  As it helps boost the immune system, reduces headaches, and repetitive strain than can lead to injuries or chronic pain.  Chair Massage reduces stress and is perfect for tension in the head, neck and shoulder region.  Since no oils or lotions are applied it can be conveniently done through the clothing in any office setting.  Massages usually last any where from 5-30 minutes.  When employers invest in the well-being of their staff they experience improved morale, attitude, loyalty and less turnover as a result.  It is also gives employees a way to recognize tension and the strain it causes.  They become more aware of body mechanics and may be able to prevent pain with regular massage.  Everyone will benefit from reduced muscle tension which is a major contributor of low back pain, repetitive strain injuries and chronic pain.  Massage increases circulation, calms the nervous system, and provides a complete change of pace so that the mind and body can relax and rejuvenate.  Chair Massage can be scheduled without interrupting the work flow.  It's affordable and easy to find a suitable preferably quiet space within your office setting.  Burnout is a major problem in our society.  A few simple minutes of
Chair Massage could make a big difference!  If you would like to schedule onsite
Chair Massage for your staff or need additional information please feel free to contact us. Remember- healthy employees create a healthy business!

Knowledge is Power...

Knowledge is Power... The more you know... #TMYK
Be your own advocate and #educate yourself.  When it comes to getting #Massage there are a few helpful things to consider when scheduling an appointment.
Did you know that certain circumstances are contraindicated.  Sometimes people feel that getting a massage when they are sick will make them feel better, especially if they are experiencing muscle aches.  Most people usually say they don't want to get their therapist sick.  But the situation is that the massage will most likely make you feel worse, as it will force the infection throughout your entire body.  So it is suggested to wait until you are feeling better.
We receive calls to book massage appointments periodically from someone who has just had a fall or has been involved in a motor vehicle accident.  Again, this could be contraindicated.  It is best to wait 3-4 days after an injury before scheduling a massage and that is provided that the injuries are not severe.
Did you know that scheduling a massage less than 24 hours after you have received an injection of any kind is not good.  That includes numbing for dental procedures, nerve block injections, flu shots etc.  Massage moves blood and lymph fluid throughout our bloodstream and body.  Be sure to keep that in mind when you schedule an appointment.
Did you know that pregnant women need to be 12 weeks along to get a massage.  #Prenatal massage is very beneficial for mom and baby.  However, if you are experiencing a high risk pregnancy be sure to get cleared from your doctor first.
If you have recently had any type of surgical procedure or prolonged illness be sure to get clearance before you get a massage.
If you have been receiving treatment for cancer, also be sure to check with your doctor to make sure that massage is not contraindicated.
FYI-It is suggested that after a massage you drink up to a gallon of water with in 24 hours.  It will help to further detoxify the system, help with any possible soreness, and help lactic acid to not settle back into the muscles.
Massage is a wonderful thing, it can be done as a stand alone or complimentary treatment for what ails you.  Just be sure that you take these things into consideration before scheduling.  Feel free to ask your therapist questions prior to scheduling, during or after your massage.  You'll be glad you did!

Moods and Moons...

Did you know we are affected by the changes in the moon?
Did you ever notice that around the time of a full moon you may feel a little more edgy, anxious or stressed?  Maybe you feel out of sorts or "off".
You are not alone.  Changes in the atmosphere and weather also create changes in our bodies and our moods can be affected.
It's been said that hosting a party or event leading up to a full moon may be a good time.  People can tend to be more receptive to having fun!
Changes in the weather can trigger positive or negative thoughts or memories.  You are not just imagining things if you have more energy at certain
times of the year or on specific days.
We only get so many pockets of energy a day.
Make sure you don't use all of you energy worrying, being upset, angry or frustrated.
It is said that we may be more energetic during the time of year in which we were born.
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall.
Did you ever notice that you seem to be more alive and motivated during a certain season.
Listen to what your body is telling you.
If you are tired rest.  If you are edgy or cranky find something that you can do to de-stress.
Go on a walk, go for a swim, be in nature.
Do whatever makes you happy.
Did you know that Massage, Reiki and Reflexology can help you to restore energy.
They can help you to relax and feel balanced both physically and mentally.
Treating yourself to any of these services can help you emotionally too.  They can help you to feel more grounded and nurtured.
The next time you feel like "it must be a full moon"
remember to listen to what your body is telling you.  Energy shifts happen all day everyday.  Just coming in contact with someone who is displaying some sort of negative energy can drag you down.
Aromatherapy is very helpful for lifting your mood.  Oils like Rosemary, Lemongrass, Cinnamon, Orange, Peppermint and Eucalyptus can elevate your mood.
If you are feeling like you need a calming effect try
Ylang Ylang, Lavender, Marjoram or Cedarwood.
Light a candle, dim the lights, put on your favorite music to achieve the mood you would like to be experiencing.  Surround yourself with the things and or people you love.  Whether you need your space and some quiet time or you need to be around people do whatever it is that makes you feel best.

Massage and more for Parkinson's...

The Benefits of Massage and other services for Parkinson's

Massage Therapy has many benefits for the person suffering from Parkinson's.  A simple massage can significantly improve quality of life.  Massage has been helpful for insomnia, it aids in relaxing the body for better sleep.  It can also help improve your ability to perform normal day to day activities.  It can help alleviate or lesson some of the other symptoms experienced such as: cramps, low energy levels, weakness in the limbs, hypertension, memory loss, headaches, nausea, anxiety, grief, depression, nightmares and stomach digestion problems.
Parkinson's Disease destroys dopamine producing cells, a neurotransmitter chemical that helps convey signals that control movement.  Research has shown that massage naturally increases dopamine levels.  It also increases endorphins, the body's natural pain relievers.  It can help to balance serotonin, a mood altering hormone as well.
Massage has been able to alleviate to some degree joint pain and muscle stiffness and it can significantly reduce stress by bringing fresh oxygen and other nutrients to the affected tissues.  Swedish Massage emphasizes soothing strokes, stimulating immune function, increasing blood/lymph flow and circulation.  It also helps maintain connective tissue mobility.  Deep Tissue Massage can greatly benefit areas of muscle tension, while stimulating localized healing.  Neuromuscular Therapy can reach connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and nerves while releasing knots of tension called trigger points.
Trigger Point Therapy uses deep pressure to release tiny knots that develop in muscle fiber, fascia and ligaments.  Myofascial Release is a gentle blend of stretching and massage that works the fascia, the thin connective tissue that covers every muscle and organ of the body.
Hot Stone Massage has also been effective in increasing blood flow and circulation via heat, creating longer lasting effects in many cases.  It is noted that when hot stones are used regularly with Parkinson's suffers, the client is in a more relaxed state right from the beginning of the massage because of the heat effect.  Reflexology is a foot massage focused on areas of the feet that correspond to certain organs in the body helping to increase circulation and flush toxins.  It also stimulates nerve endings and helps to balance your body's energy.  There are over 4,000 pores in our feet, and these pores are one of the main sources of eliminating toxins in our body.  Aromatherapy Oils have been used for hundreds of years, and have been very effective when incorporated into a massage to produce the desired effect such as:  having antispasmatic, calming, uplifting, detoxifying or digestive results.  These oils can also be used at home in a diffuser, candle or in a bath.  Certain oils or combinations of oils can be used depending on the effect you want to achieve.
All of our massage therapy sessions incorporate
dimmed lighting and relaxing music as part of the treatment.  Music calms and relaxes the body.  Listening to relaxing  music at home can also be very beneficial.
Massage Therapy in general increase flexibility and range of motion, it lowers heart rate and blood pressure while increasing  lymph flow assisting your body in eliminating wastes and toxins.  It soothes nerve endings, and creates the ability to recognize tension. pain and tightness in ones own body.  The skin is the largest organ in the body.  In one square inch of skin cells there are 500 sweat glands, more than 1,000 nerve endings, yards of tiny blood cells, nearly 100 sebaceous/oil glands, 150 sensors for pressure, 75 sensors for heat and 10 sensors for cold, not to mention the millions of other cells.
Other services that are helpful include:
Warm Wax Paraffin Treatment This service can be done on your hands and or feet.  These treatments can be incorporated into your massage or done as a stand alone treatment.  Paraffin increases blood flow to the affected area, decreases nerve sensation thus relieving pain.  It helps relieve muscle spasms and relaxes nerve endings and muscles.  It delivers consistent heat to painful joints and limbs.  The warm wax helps insolate the extremity holding in the heat effects after being applied to the body.  It also exfoliates and softens skin, helping to retain moisture as it holds in the heat.
Body Scrubs can also be an effective treatment.  These salt scrubs gently exfoliate dead skin cells removing the top layer of skin to prepare the body to eliminate toxins through the pores, while hydrating the skin.  This treatment also helps with sluggish circulation, and helps to increase endurance and energy while stimulating nerve endings.
Reiki is a form of energy healing that can help to calm the mind and relieve stress while harmonizing and balancing your emotional state.  It helps to nourish and heal damaged tissue while encouraging the body's natural healing processes.  It promotes deep relaxation, releases energy blockages and helps to detoxify.  It may also be helpful in combating negativity and depression.
Consider scheduling some of these services for yourself, or someone suffering from Parkinson's.  Remember, caregivers also need to take care of themselves.  It is important that they take time to get recharged and refueled naturally!

Summer Solstice Staycation!

Happy Summer Solstice.  Heart & Soul is committed to enriching the body, mind & spirit.  We encourage our clients to try services and retail items that promote balance and tranquility.  Reflexology helps to increase energy flow to all of the organs in the body.  Reiki promotes healing through the use of Universal Life Force Energy.  Hot Stone Massage brings balance to the body using deep penetrating heat from warmed mineral stones.  Aromatherapy can be added to most of our services.  We offer relaxing, uplifting, and muscle ache blends.  The oils are also available for purchase for home use.  We have an all natural room clearing spray made with Lavender, Sage, Orange, Vetiver and Patchouli.  It can be sprayed in the home, office, car or on your person.  We also offer Yoga classes.  A great way for creating a harmonious mind body spirit connection.  We hope that you will consider scheduling yourself or someone else a relaxing treatment soon.  The more natural things you can incorporate into your lifestyle the better.  Our bodies are bombarded daily with toxins, pollution and artificial items.  We are exposed to chemicals, fumes, pesticides and many other unnatural products every day.  In order for our bodies to handle stress and function better we need to take care of them.  Do what you can to make changes to create a more holistic environment for yourself.  Consider adding a small water fountain or wind chimes inside or outside of your home or office.  Both create sound and movement which equals energy flow.  We have several wind chimes and fountains throughout our office space.  We also have Himalayan salt lamps everywhere in our office and have relaxing music playing in all of our treatment rooms and common areas.  This summer take a Staycation, come to Heart & Soul and do something special for yourself, you'll be glad you did!

What do you think of when you see this image?
Does it make you feel relaxed?
Maybe energized?
Did you know color can affect your mood.  Maybe you feel serene or inspired.  Blue is very calming.  It makes us think of the sky or the ocean.  The gold may make you think of the sun rising or setting.  The droplets of water may make you think of a gentle rain or a puddle of water.  All of the colors together may remind you of a rainbow.   Color is all around us and in us.  We all have energy centers in our body called Chakras.  Each center corresponds with a specific color.  The top of our head is violet, that is the Crown Chakra and has to do with higher self, spiritual wellbeing, wisdom, understanding and our Divine connection.  The Brow Chakra
(Third Eye) is dark indigo blue.  It relates to intuition, insight, imagination, and peace of mind.  The Throat Chakra is sky blue.  It is associated with creative expression of speech, peace, truth, communication and loyalty.  The Heart Chakra is green with pink as a secondary color.  It deals with unconditional love, forgiveness, compassion, harmony and contentment.  The Solar Plexus Chakra is yellow.  It has to do with personal power, energy, laughter, warmth and self control.  The Naval Chakra is orange.  It is connected to giving and receiving emotions, desire, new ideas, health, family and surrender.  The Root or Base Chakra is red with black as a secondary color.  It deals with the material world/success, stability, security, grounding and individuality.  There are also powerful energy centers in the palms of our hands and the soles of our feet.  Many times when people have Reflexology, Reiki or Massage sessions they will actually see colors while their eyes are closed.  Being in that relaxed state helps them get in touch with these Chakra centers in their body.  The energy in various areas of the body is stimulated when receiving these treatments.  Maybe you or someone you know has had their aura read.  Maybe you've chosen to decorate a room based on the feeling you are trying to create.  Maybe you've even dressed in a certain color to create a specific mood or reaction.  It is said that if a Chakra is blocked something as simple as wearing the corresponding color, eating a food of that color or surrounding yourself in that color can actually help to open up that energy center.  Specific gem stones and minerals are also associated with these Chakras.  Consider wearing Blue Topaz for your Throat Chakra, or Rose Quartz to open your heart up.  Heart and Soul sells many loose stones like Amethyst and Rose Quartz.  We also have jewelry made of natural elements like stone and crystal.  We want to educate you about things that are connected to the body, mind and spirit.  We put a lot of thought and research into the services we offer and the items we sell.  In the near future we are hoping to bring on new services and educational talks.  If you would like additional information about any of our services, retail items or would like to participate in our yoga classes please visit our website or give us a call.  We are committed to offering things that will energize you, relax you, inspire you and inform you...

Treat your feet at Heart & Soul...

FEET FIRST...
Did you know that we offer several services that treat your feet?
We have 45 minute Reflexology sessions that can be done as a stand alone service or tacked on to a 30 or 60 minute Massage.  Reflexology helps to improve circulation, detoxify and balance the entire body.  We have over 7000 nerve endings in the soles of our feet.  Not only does having our feet massaged feel good, it actually has many benefits.  You can also add on warm wax paraffin or hot stones to any Reflexology session or a Pedassage treatment.
Our Pedassage is a 25 minute exfoliating foot scrub and foot massage.  It helps get blood flow to your extremities and stimulates nerve endings.  It also leaves your feet and calves feeling smooth and refreshed.  If you choose to add on warm wax paraffin, it usually remains on the feet for 20 minutes.  It helps to remove old skin cells, soften the skin and gets relaxing heat to the extremities.  It is very helpful for sore achy feet and conditions such as arthritis.  Hot stones can be incorporated into either of the foot treatments.  The stones have mineral properties that help to bring about balance in our system.  The deep penetrating heat also feels very relaxing.  The stones are usually applied for 7-10 minutes per foot.  We hope that you will consider trying some of these great options for your feet!  Relax, Revive and Rejuvenate today!

February is Heart Month

Every minute someone dies from Coronary Heart Disease, making it the leading cause of death in the US.  More than 630,000 people die each year, that's 1 in 4 deaths in the US.  Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in women, more than all cancers combined.  MASSAGE increases circulation, lowers your blood pressure and heart rate, reduces stress and anxiety, increases endorphins, reduces swelling and edema, increases lymph flow, promotes deeper easier breathing and promotes healing.  Imagine all of the veins in your body...MASSAGE can help move fluid through the veins improving circulation without putting extra strain on the heart.  The heart is the body's center of circulation.  The heart beats continuously more than 100,000 times per day.  The average adult body contains 5 quarts of blood.  So the heart is circulating more than 1500 gallons of blood per day to every cell in the body.  MASSAGE can help increase the oxygen supply and nutrients to the entire body.  MASSAGE increases lymph flow helping to eliminate waste, detoxify the body and strengthen the immune system.  MASSAGE helps get blood flow to the extremities, at a steady rate.  The cardiovascular system is also responsible for regulating the body's temperature.  Strokes, blood clots and high blood pressure are all heart related dis-eases.  Dis-ease means that your body is not at ease.  MASSAGE can help soothe your body, mind and spirit by producing calming effects thus providing the opportunity for your body to repair daily wear and tear.  Things such as stress, smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, physical inactivity, diabetes, weight issues or obesity all put extra strain on your heart.  Grief can also put extra strain on the heart.  Men who donate blood three times a year can reduce their chance of having a heart attack by more than 50%.  Blood donation reduces the amount of iron being stored in their body.  Why wait for a wake up call... Making healthy lifestyle changes that include exercise, healthy eating habits and massage are the key to a healthy heart.  Please consider a massage for someone you love or yourself today!

It is better to give than receive...

Go light your candle, go light your world!  The season of giving... Many of you gave, many of you received.  We all have gifts to give.  We all have a light that shines brightly.  Since the begining Heart & Soul has always given generously to our community.  We feel it is very important to reach out to our community.  We've given not only of our talents and our time.  We've donated countless gift certificates and gift baskets.  We also donated back to school supplies and canned food to our community.  We regularly collect expired manufactures coupons to give to our military families to use on base.  We also sign Christmas cards annually to send to our troops.  Our staff members have donated countless hours of complimentary chair massage.
Since September 29, 2003 we have provided over 2,100 free chair massages.  Many have been to heroes in our community.
Gift certificate donations have been given to over 60 different oganizations in our community.  Many have received yearly certificate donations from Heart & Soul.  Heart & Soul has helped with fund raising efforts for local injured law enforcement and fallen officers funds.  We've also raised funds for local injured troops, as well as our own staff members going through fianacial strain due to unexpected medical needs throughout the last 8 years.  Heart & Soul isn't just a day spa, or a group of people working together.  We are a family.  We go above an beyond to not only help meet the needs of our clients, but our community as well.
This is a place where Heart meets Soul...

Heart and Soul Happenings: National Spa Week

Heart and Soul Happenings: National Spa Week: Does this photo make you feel serene? How would a trip to a spa make you feel? Can you imagine yourself listening to the relaxing sound of...

National Spa Week

Does this photo make you feel serene?  How would a trip to a spa make you feel?  Can you imagine yourself listening to the relaxing sound of gentle rain, ocean waves, or the sounds of birds chirping?  I can.  What about the color green, how does it make you feel?  Hopefully relaxed.  Our eyes adjust very easily to green, because we are so used to seeing it in nature.  It's one of the most dominant colors we see on a regular basis.  Green, lavender and blue are considered the most relaxing colors.  When we started Heart & Soul, we chose shades of green intentionally for the walls and accent colors.  Many people have chosen green to paint their bedrooms and bathrooms in their homes because they want to create a place that they can unwind and feel like they are in nature or at a spa.  At Heart & Soul we do our best to create a relaxing atmosphere.  The treatment rooms have dim lighting to encourage relaxation.  Included in each treatment room is a Chakra candle, and a Himalayan crystal rock salt lamp.  Both help promote a sense of serenity.  They also help to balance and de stress your body, mind & spirit.  Each room is filled with the sounds of relaxing music as well.  Aromatherapy can be incorporated into many of our treatments.  Certain essential oils can actually help you to unwind.  Whether they are used on the body or diffused into the atmosphere, the natural aroma triggers something in our brain and our minds that relaxes us.  At Heart & Soul, services such as body scrubs and wraps, pedassages, hand scrubs and warm wax paraffin treatments can definitely make you feel pampered.  These treatments get blood flow to your extremities, can help detoxify your system, exfoliate and soften your skin.  If you are considering doing something special for yourself, a friend or a loved one, why not consider a spa service.  The treatments I've suggested can be done as individual services or combined with one of our many other treatments.  While some of these things can be done in your home, there's nothing quite like the feeling of treating yourself.  And while some may consider these services a luxury, every service we provide at Heart & Soul has benefits way beyond relaxation.  During National Spa Week, or really any time of the year... You will be amazed at how you feel when you experience any one of the amazing treatments at Heart & Soul!  We look forward to providing you a relaxing, reviving and rejuvenating experience in the near future!

Suppressed emotions such as anger, grief, and fear can become crystallized throughout the muscle structure of the body leading to depression, aches, pains, and fatique on many levels. MASSAGE can release muscle tension, release stored emotions, and free the psyche while relaxing the body.  Individuals who are experiencing feelings of loss, sadness and frustration that are interfering with every day life can use MASSAGE to counteract the body chemistry that maintains the depression.  AROMATHERAPY can also be incorporated into the massage session to either relax or stimulate your mood.  Individuals who are experiencing these emotions: anxiety and depression- tend to hold their bodies in tense positions for prolonged periods of time, creating strain.  The compassionate touch of MASSAGE makes the individual feel connected, nurtured, worthwhile, cared for and relaxed.  MASSAGE can also improve your quality of sleep which may or may not be a result of insomnia.  It can help enhance your decision making skills regarding your overall health.  It is lowers your heart rate and blood pressure.  MASSAGE can support your return to physical and emotional health.  If you are recovering from emotional trauma, MASSAGE can give you more energy, and help comfort you through the time when you need it most.  It can create a safe place to experience positive emotions and help you reconnect with your body and your emotions.  It is vital to take time out when you are dealing with a loss of any kind.  Grief can lead to depression and MASSAGE increases endophins, your bodys natural healers.  Honor your feelings.  Relaxation can also be learned through focusing on small things such as pain relief, deeper breathing and awareness of how your body responds to stress.  To cope with stress, feelings of numbness, and distance consider MASSAGE.  You may have supressed your feelings, distanced yourself from others and buried yourself in work or other projects.  The gentle touch of MASSAGE can help ease you back from a loss, a state of depression or the feeling of constant anxiety.  The positive effects of MASSAGE will last well beyond the session.  You will start to feel a sense of freedom and relief.  Because MASSAGE cares for the whole body without judging, it can help you accept yourself right where you are.  Consider a MASSAGE for yourself or someone you know that is going through a difficult time.  Heart & Soul is committed to enriching your body, mind & spirit.
